Humanitix announces new Impact Partner: Code.org
Mar 14th 2022
Humanitix is excited to announce that we have partnered with Code.org as our newest Impact Partner!
Code.org® is a non-profit dedicated to providing access to computer science education for all students, regardless of gender, race or socio-economic status. They believe that computer science education is key to the future of our economy and our society, and are doing an incredible job at getting more young people interested in coding, especially women and underrepresented students of color. Code.org's vision is that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry, or algebra.
But don't just take our word for it - learn about this "superpower" that isn't being taught in the majority of schools from the likes of Bill Gates, Jack Dorsey, Chris Bosh and will.i.am.
Why coding?
Coding is one of the most important skills young people can learn in today's world. Code.org says that "computing is part of everything we do" and they're right - coding affects almost every aspect of our lives in our digital world.
1. Computer Science is Foundational
Computer science exercises logic and problem-solving, stimulates the imagination, and inspires students to create. Like reading, writing, or maths, computer science is foundational to other pursuits.
2. Economic Opportunity for All
Jobs in tech are the fastest-growing, best-paying, and now the largest sector of all new wages in the U.S.
3. Diversity in Tech Jobs
Historically, women comprise only 26% of the tech workforce, and under 20% of computer science students in the education pipeline. Girls are 10x more likely to study computer science in college after early exposure in K-12.
The Impact of Code.org
Code.org has already made a huge impact, teaching over 15 million students how to code since its founding in 2013. They focus outreach efforts in urban and rural areas where getting access to computer science education is especially challenging. Code.org works across the education spectrum, including:
- Designing curriculums
- Training teachers
- Partnering with school districts
- Helping change government policies
- Supporting international partners
- Marketing to break stereotypes.
Code.org increases diversity in computer science by reaching students of all backgrounds where they are — at their skill-level, in their schools, and in ways that inspire them to keep learning.
Our $100k donation
At Humanitix, we are committed to using technology to make a difference in the world. We believe that through our partnership with Code.org, we can help expand access to computer science education for all students, and help to shape the future of our economy and society.
To kickstart the partnership, we have made a donation of $100,000 AUD to Code.org to help them continue their work and reach even more students. We're excited to be harnessing the power of tech for good, and to maximize our social impact together!
